2027 Ford Maverick: The Hybrid That Actually Makes Sense

The Truck for People Who Actually Think
Look, the Ford Maverick isn’t here to stroke your ego or look tough in a parking lot. It’s a compact pickup that knows exactly what it is: a practical, efficient daily driver that happens to have a bed. And honestly? That’s refreshing as hell.
With a 4.5-foot bed and 4000 pounds of towing capacity (with the Tow package), the Maverick handles everything a normal person needs to haul. Your lumber run, some yard equipment, maybe a small trailer—it’s got you covered. Meanwhile, that stiff suspension Ford engineered for payload capacity keeps things real: you’ll feel the road, but that’s the tradeoff for a truck that actually works.
The Hybrid Is the One to Buy—Full Stop
Ford’s standard 191-hp 2.5-liter hybrid setup earned multiple 10Best awards for a reason. We’re talking 39 mpg combined, 40 mpg city with AWD. That’s sedan numbers on a truck that can actually tow stuff.
The optional turbocharged 2.0-liter is tempting with its 250 horses and 5.8-second 0-60 time, but unless you specifically want that Lobo sport trim (which does corner impressively for a truck), stick with the hybrid. You’ll spend way less on gas, and the driving experience is nearly identical in real life. The Lobo is the hot take if you want drama, but most buyers should order the XLT hybrid AWD with the Tow package and call it done.
Where It Stumbles
The base XL trim is genuinely too basic—we’re talking sparse interior, minimal creature comforts. Skip it unless this is purely a work truck. The XLT is where the value lives.
And yeah, Hyundai’s Santa Cruz can tow 5000 pounds and has a nicer cabin, but Santa Cruz production is ending in 2027 anyway. The Maverick is sticking around.
The Verdict
If you don’t need an F-150’s massive payload, the Maverick is the smarter play. It’s maneuverable, efficient, practical, and won’t bankrupt you at the pump. The 2027 model rolls unchanged from its 2025 refresh—which is fine because Ford already got it right.
Spec this: XLT Hybrid AWD + Tow Package. You’re welcome.
